Bookshelf

I’m a voracious reader. My interest in books has its roots in my childhood. I used to read children’s monthlies like Chandamama, Bommarillu etc.  and also classics like Panchatantra and Ramayana.I might have read Ramayana (children’s version) at least a few hundred times. I believe my grandfather, an M.A. Literature and himself an avid reader, influenced my adolescent reading which included both English classics like Moby Dick and Telugu classics like Maha Prasthanam.  Nevertheless, I’ve considered “reading” seriously as a habit/hobby only since my B.Tech days.

I read both fiction and non-fiction. However, the later constitutes only 20-30 percent of the former. While I try to read and enjoy diverse subjects and genres, I avoid horror. Also I don’t prefer romance and chick-lit much. I can’t possibly say much about what I actually like right now as  I’m still shaping my preferences. I guess it would take me, as I broaden my scope, a while to refine them.

At this point, my favorite authors are

  • R K Narayan
  • Michael Crichton
  • Erich Segal
  • Kazuo Ishiguro

On this page, I would like to share my virtual bookshelf hosted at Shelfari. I love the appearance of Shelfari.  Also I’m very much impressed by its vast database and amazing search functionality, besides loads of other features. Check out My Shelfari Profile.

I also maintain a spreadsheet of all the books I read, which also includes books in Telugu.  One can check it out here.

It’s my dream to build a good personal library some day and I hope to realize it as soon as possible.
